27th Annual Newmarket Voice Festival SyllabusMonologue Other Than Shakespeare - SoloEntry Fee $30 There are three types of monologues: monologues that address an audience directly; soliloquies spoken as if the character is alone (revealing inner thoughts); and speeches delivered to another character. Selection must be a scene depicting one character from a published play or published anthology of monologues. Scene may be abridged so the selection includes only the words of one character. A text must be provided for the adjudicator. Memorization is required. 5 minute time limit.
Shakespeare Monologue - Solo Entry Fee $30 Own choice of a scene or speech from any play by William Shakespeare. Scene may be abridged so monologue includes only the words of one character. Memorization is required. A text must be provided for the adjudicator. 5 minute time limit.
Prose Solo Entry Fee $30 Selections must be an excerpt (in paragraph form), but not limited to, a published essay, novel or short story (fiction or non-fiction). The passage may be abridged to form a unified whole. Prose is non-metrical writing and thus, stories written in verse are not permitted. Selection should include narration, description and dialogue. It should be spoken in a storytelling style and not as a dramatic scene. No acting and limited movement around the stage. Participant may stand or be seated. A text must be provided for the adjudicator. Memorization is required. 5 minute time limit.
Story Telling - Solo Entry Fee $30 Participants may write their own story, or retell, in their own words, a published folk, fairy tale, myth or legend. A text must be provided for the adjudicator. 5 minute time limit.
