27th Annual Newmarket Voice Festival SyllabusDramatic DuologueEntry Fee $30 Two People - Own choice from an excerpt that depicts TWO characters from a published anthology or published play. No Shakespearean drama is permitted in this class. Simple portable props are allowed. Memorization is required. A text must be provided for the adjudicator. 5 minute time limit.
Choral Speech - Group Entry Fee $40 Speaking of a piece of literature by a speech choir. Focus is on the language and the text. Prime emphasis is on telling the story, rather than acting it out. Gestures and simple in-place movements may be used, but there is no movement around the stage. Variety may be created through the division of voices, use of solo voices, physical arrangement of the choir, use of props and the suggestion of simple costume. 10 minute time limit.
Speech Arts & Drama Masterclass Entry Fee – Junior $30 Senior $40 Class is limited to ten singers so sign up early! Choose one published selection (poem, monologue, story, speech) from any of the speech arts/drama categories, that was not performed in any other class in the Festival. Text must be provided for the adjudicator. 5 minute time limit. This is a non-competitive class and open to the public. The adjudicator will work with each participant individually.
